For Immediate Release March 26, 2004 MARAL Pro-Choice Michigan Mourns the Loss of Millie Jeffrey, Legendary Activist and Pioneer for Women’s RightsLANSING- MARAL Pro-Choice Michigan today issued the following statement regarding the death of Mildred “Millie” McWilliams Jeffrey, a legendary activist and pioneer for women’s rights. The 93-year-old Detroit resident passed away Wednesday, March 24. “Millie Jeffrey was a champion of social justice, tireless leader and activist for equality, and advocate for women. She spent her life working to make the world a safer, better place for everyone regardless of age, race, gender, or socio-economic background. Millie was instrumental in founding organizations that support women’s causes and a leader in the choice community. She served on the Board of MARAL Pro-Choice Michigan’s national organization, NARAL Pro-Choice America, from 1981-1987. She also served as an off-Board member to the NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC from 1987-1989 and as an off-Board member to the NARAL Pro-Choice America Nominating Committee from 1991-1993. She held positions with other pro-choice organization’s including Emily’s List and Voters for Choice. Throughout her life, Millie Jeffrey was a stalwart supporter of the women’s community. She touched our lives and hearts in so many ways and she will be sorely missed. We extend our deepest sympathy to Millie’s family.”
