Join MARAL Pro-Choice Michigan On CampusActivating the Next Generation of Choice Advocates: Thirty-five years ago, when the U.S. Supreme Court decided Roe vs. Wade, women of all ages were bound together demanding the freedom to make their own decisions about reproductive health. The succeeding decades have seen the slow dissolve of the rights articulated in Roe and a precipitous decline in pro-choice activism among the generations that grew up under the protections of that decision. The future of the pro-choice movement in Michigan depends on a renewable source of young activists whose energy and experience can be translated into professional staff, board members and sustaining members of our organization. Campus Organizing at MARAL Pro-Choice Michigan: For the majority of today’s students, access to legal abortion has never been threatened. Therefore, many young women and men have never feared that their ability to obtain safe and legal abortion services would be taken away. This, paired with the current threats to choice at both the state and federal levels, makes MARAL Pro-Choice Michigan’s campus organizing project more important than ever. MARAL Pro-Choice Michigan is reaching out to college campuses across the state because we know it is extremely important to educate and mobilize the next generation of pro-choice activists. By working to create new student groups, by becoming an ally to already existing groups, and by building coalitions with like-minded campus organizations and programs, MARAL Pro-Choice Michigan is making a positive impact on a generation of students who have grown up in this post-Roe society.
