Support Contraceptive Equity
We need your help to urge the Michigan Legislature to support contraceptive equity!Below is a letter you can mail, email or fax to your legislator urging them to support commonsense polices to reduce unintended pregnancies. Unsure of who your Michigan State Legislators are? Click here to find out. --Letter to Legislators-- Dear Legislator,
As a pro-choice Michigander and constituent, I would like to urge you to use your voice and your vote to support reproductive health care and a woman’s right to choose this legislative session. Specifically Senate Bills 41 and 42 and House Bills 4295 and 4296.
Across the country and around the State, women face many obstacles to obtaining vital health care. We need to eliminate health care disparities in Michigan by removing barriers to accessing contraception and requiring health plans providing coverage for prescription drugs and devices to also cover contraception. In Michigan, 30% of insurance plans have prescription drug coverage, but do NOT provide contraceptive coverage. As a result, women pay 68% more than men on out-of-pocket medical expenses, largely due to their reproductive health care needs. Access to contraceptive methods helps to reduce unintended pregnancy and decrease the need for abortion.
I believe that assuring contraceptive equity in insurance coverage and providing preventative healthcare would be the best place to begin to work together this legislative session to improve the health and lives of the people in Michigan. I will be following your voting record on this and other pro-choice issues during the 2007-2008 Legislative Session.
Thank you,
